This is what the questions looks like on the ballot!

ballot_questionWhat it is and why we need it:

Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) has had a Maintenance & Operations override in place since 1989.  We are now at risk for losing all override funding! State law requires that overrides begin to phase out after five years unless they are renewed by the electorate. Two years ago, in 2012, the SUSD override renewal did not pass  Last year, in 2013, another attempt at renewing the override failed – this time by .5%, only 237 votes. Scottsdale voters have one more chance to approve our override before all of the M&O override funding is eliminated! Nearly all of the districts in the state operate with overrides. Budget Overrides allow school districts to utilize property taxes to supplement the education funding provided by the State. Arizona funds education at a shockingly low rate, consistently ranking among the lowest states in per-pupil funding.

At Cheyenne, we have felt the pain of the cutbacks caused by state funding cuts and the override phase out including the reduction in specials such as PE, music and art, increased class sizes and having to let go of valuable members of our teaching and support staff. Passage of the override in 2014 will restore the programs and personnel that have been cut due to the override phase out. Among other things, K-5 specials will return to 100% time, and class sizes at all grade levels will be reduced.

What you can do to help:
First and foremost make sure that you are registered to vote. Go to www.servicearizona.com to register or pick up voter register forms in the Cheyenne office.

Spread the word and make sure all of your friends and family who reside within the SUSD boundaries are registered, mail in their ballots and/or are ready to vote on November 4th

Donate to Yes to Children, the Political Action Committee tasked with passing the override. Check out their website at  www.yestochildren.org  for more information and like them on Facebook.
